A graduate of the Universities of Oxford and of Pisa, Nicholas Brownlees is Professor of English Language at the University of Florence. At Florence University he has been Head of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Intercultural Studies and a member of the Academic Senate. He has written extensively on the language of news and in particular on news discourse in the early modern era. He is editor of The Edinburgh History of the British and Irish Press, vol. 1 1640–1800 (Edinburgh University Press, forthcoming).
